The Pro Plug Structural Forstner Bit and Structural Smart-Bit Depth setter drill the screw hole counterbore to accommodate the screw and finishing plug. Note that plugs require boards at least 2 inches thick.

Sets include plugs and screws; the tool and bit are required and sold separately.

      Do I need to pre-drill for plugging systems for wood framing?

      Yes. For the PVC and Wood Structural Plugging Kits we have in stock, the hole should be pre-drilled using the included 22mm Forstner bit and depth setting collar.

      Align the underside of the depth setting collar with the second groove on the Forstner bit, then tighten the set screw until the collar is firmly in place. Pre-drill in a straight, steady motion until the depth setting collar stops spinning, then remove any debris from the hole before driving the structural screw.

      Always follow the lumber manufacturer’s installation instructions, including requirements for screw spacing and edge/end distances. For full installation details, please refer to the Pro Plug System for Structural Wood instructions.
