The main difference between 304 and 316 nails is the addition of molybdenum in the 316 alloy. The presence of molybdenum makes 316 nails the superior choice for saltwater and chemical resistance. 304 nails are better suited for general use in inland projects. 

Stainless ring shank nails have raised ridges that grip more firmly in wood fibers. This is the key to superior withdrawal resistance. This design locks nails into place, preventing them from backing out over time.

Generally, three to five roofing nails are recommended per square foot, but the exact number depends on location, shingle style, and manufacturer guidelines. High-wind areas and steep slopes call for 6 nails per shingle, or approximately 5 nails per square foot.
