Marine Screws

Marine Screws

When you’re building near saltwater, standard fasteners often fail faster than expected. Marine screws made from 316 stainless steel are designed to handle these conditions, offering strong resistance to corrosion in high-moisture and salt-heavy environments.

These marine grade screws are a reliable choice for exterior construction where durability matters. From residential decks to commercial waterfront builds, using the right stainless steel fasteners helps protect your work from premature failure and ongoing maintenance issues.

316 Stainless Steel - Wood Screws Salt Water Safe Type 17 notched point for fast penetration Self-countersinking bugle head Square drive recess reduces driver cam-out Threaded approximately 2/3 of shank on most sizes Deep coarse threads for better hold Use with cedar, redwood, engineered wood and preservative treated *Type 316 Stainless Steel should always be specified for salt water applications. 316 grade stainless steel has a lower carbon content than 18-8 type stainless (302HQ, 304 and 305) and contains molybdenum for superior corrosion resistance in salt water and other highly corrosive environments. It is the grade of stainless steel to be specified in any seaside application to prevent rusting & bleeding through. Important Installation Instructions: If the screws are to be driven by a screw gun, be sure the bit is securely seated in the square recess of the screw. Start slowly and gradually increase speed until the head is driven flush. A high driving speed increases the chance of stripping the square drive recess. If the tool has an adjustable torque collar, use a piece of scrap lumber to determine the proper setting needed to drive the head flush with the surface. This will prevent twisting off the screw head.

316 Marine Grade Screws for Saltwater Environments

Not all stainless performs the same. 316 stainless steel contains added molybdenum, which improves its corrosion resistance compared to 304 stainless steel.

Invest in 316-stainless waterproof screws for the following applications:

  • Coastal homes and exterior framing
  • Docks and piers
  • Boardwalks
  • Boat lifts
  • Deck framing within 15 miles of saltwater

Choosing 316 marine screws helps reduce staining, rust, and fastener breakdown. In many cases, this leads to longer service life and fewer repairs over time.

Marine Fasteners for Composite, Fiberglass, & Engineered Materials

Modern waterfront builds often use composite decking, fiberglass components, and engineered wood products. These materials require fasteners that won’t react with moisture or cause surface staining.

Marine grade fasteners made from 316 stainless steel are especially effective when working with:

  • Composite decking systems
  • Fiberglass structures and panels
  • Plywood, OSB, and laminated veneers
  • Engineered wood and synthetic materials

Sharx brand screws are a strong option for these applications, offering consistent performance across a range of substrates. With the right stainless marine fasteners, you can build with confidence in demanding coastal conditions.
