quality and service

Best nail for cedar shingles!

Some nails are not well designed or they are designed to be a little easier to manufacture. These nails have a bunch of qualities that show the designer cared about making a superior product. The top of the shank is not smaller than the rings which is common with ring shank nails because this makes the manufacturing easier. But it also allows excessive water to travel under the shingle. Also, the rings are designed to penetrate smoothly without tearing the wood while offering more holding power in the opposite direction. The only thing I didn't like is the points are very sharp which could lead to splitting. I always acclimatize my shingles before installing them so I'm not too worried about this but I'll still dull the tips with a hammer tap so the nail tears a little hole down the middle rather than parting all the wood fibers. This leads to a better water seal around the nail and a longer life for the cedar shingle installation.
