Marutex® Hex Washer HeadWhat is Marutex® A breakthrough in drill screw metallurgy gives Marutex screws corrosion resistance superior to type 304 stainless steel but with excellent penetration ability through steel studs. Regular type 410 stainless steel is case hardened. These bad boys are toughened by a tempering and quenching process. This means that, while the surface hardness is slightly less than case hardened 410 stainless, the core hardness is higher - making it one tough screw. The secret to their superior corrosion resistance over regular 410 and 18-8 types of stainless is the addition of about 2% molybdenum (we find it hard to pronounce as well) which is the same element that gives type 316 stainless its superior saltwater resistance. On balance, Marutex® fasteners outperform all other self-drilling screws in corrosion resistance, strength and driving ease. |
